Q: How often should I change the oil in my car?

Black and white family portrait of 1970s mom, dad and son posing in front of their car and home.Michael says....
The traditional rule of thumb is to get new oil and filter every three months or 5,000 kilometres, but most vehicles made in 2000 or later are fine with 8,000- to 10,000-kilometre changes. It’s best to check your owner’s manual for the right time frame and distance for your vehicle; each vehicle has different lubrication designs, engine oils, environments and usage patterns, so it’s going to vary quite a bit.
