Q: We’d like to go to Europe, but can’t afford London-type prices. Are there any cheap countries there to visit?

Michele says...
Sure. Everything from meals to hotels are easier on the wallet in many of the 10 countries that joined the European Union in 2004. Leading the pack is Slovenia. Think mountains, sun-drenched beach towns along the Adriatic coast and Venetian-style architecture. Accommodations can be had for as little as $6 a night in a cheapo hotel, and up to about $58 for deluxe digs. Croatia, which will be joining the EU club in 2009, also has low prices. Once known as a war-torn country, these days it’s popular for the beauty of its unspoiled seaside towns and its hot, dry summers.
