Q: Why is wine cheaper than water in some countries?

Michele says...
While it seems to defy logic, some destinations have more grapes than water. In Australia, for example, an excess of grapes has dropped the price of a bottle of wine to about $1.65 (CAD)—less than bottled water. In the Caribbean, I’ve also found beer to cost less than bottled water or soft drinks. Speaking of bottled water, try to avoid it if you can. It’s environmentally hostile, costing 240 to 10,000 times more than tap water, and it isn’t necessarily purer.
