Q: I drink about six cups of coffee a day. Is that too much?

While some research suggests that coffee may have antioxidant properties and may play a preventative role in colon cancer, diabetes and Parkinson’s disease, Health Canada does have guidelines for appropriate levels of caffeine consumption. For adults, it suggests no more than 400 to 450 milligrams of caffeine a day, or about three cups of coffee. For women of child-bearing age, it recommends a maximum daily caffeine intake of no more than 300 milligrams, which is the equivalent of a little more than two cups of coffee.
