Q: I think my six-year-old is unbalanced. She has tantrums for literally no reason. Help!

Lezlie says...
Ah, but there’s always a reason. I love the old parenting guide Positive Discipline (Ballantine Books, 1987) by Jane Nelsen. She argues that misbehaving children have, in her words, mistaken goals. Like? To get attention, a child throws herself on the floor and flails about. (Admit it: If nothing else, that will draw you away from your iPhone.) So what can you do? Figure out your child's need before the tantrum hits. Take cues from what she says or does or asks. And get Nelsen's book.
