Q: How do we know if our child has ADD?

Only a doctor can diagnose attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but that doesn’t stop anyone. ADD has become common parlance to describe normally active kids (they’re all like little buzz-ing bees sometimes) and adults who are multi-tasking unsuccessfully or distracted (as in “Oh, I’m so ADD right now!”). The Canadian Mental Health Association lists ADD symptoms such as inattention, impulsivity and, in the case of ADHD, hyperactivity. This alone tells you that there must be a fine diagnosis line. Check with your doc.
