What Your Pet Reveals About Your Dating Style

"What's your sign?" "What do you for a living?" "Wanna get out of here?" These are questions that people commonly ask when they meet someone they'd like to date. But perhaps they should be asking, "Are you a dog person, or a cat person?"

Results from a survey conducted by the relationship experts at Match.com report that there are significant differences between the dating styles of Canadian singles depending on whether they are "dog people," "cat people" or completely indifferent toward animals.

Here is what your love interest's choice of pet might suggest about their wooing style.

- Don't expect to be wined and dined by a cat-lover: feline-lovers spend $5 to $20 on a first date, while generous dog-lovers will spend between $40 and $50.

- Much like their sassy Calico, most cat-lovers tend to play it cool after the first date: 34% will wait for the other person to reach out to them.

- Cat-lovers may be aloof, but you can't accuse them of being ageist: 50% are most likely to date someone more than 10 years their junior.

- It's a little ironic that dog-lovers, whom Match.com labels as "The Ultimate Companion," are most likely to have had a one-night stand!

- 51% of Canadian pooch-lovers are likely to have dated a friend, compared to 47% of their cat-inclined counterparts--and, being traditionalists they are, they probably covered the cost of the first date, to boot.

- Considered safe and sensible, animal-indifferent singles are more likely to marry someone without living with them...

...But that doesn't mean they're hopeless romantics! Only 68% of Canadian singles who don't like animals believe in soul mates, while 77% of dog-lovers and 76% of cat-lovers believe in true love.

- 53% of animal-indifferent Canadians also seem indifferent to alcohol--at least on the first date. 53% do not drink on a first date, the most out of all Canadians.
