It's National Dog Day!

If you're a dog-loving American, then you probably already know that today, August 26th, is National Dog Day!

Big or small, furry or shorn, dogs are incredible creatures -- smart, affectionate animals that can do amazing things like lead the blind, guard our homes, detect drugs or just snuggle up with you on the couch after a long day at the office.

If you're a dog-owner, you can celebrate Dog Day by surprising your pooch with a new toy or treats, or letting him/her have an extra few minutes of playtime at the park. If you don't have dog, you might celebrate "man's best friend" by adopting one from your local humane society, spending time with a friend's dog or simply watching reruns of Scooby Doo.

Here are 6 celebrities who love their dogs!

1. Prince William & Kate Middleton: Before the royal baby was born, Lupo probably got most of the cuddles at Kensington Palace. The Cocker Spaniel has been included in many photos ops, including the first official photo of the royal baby, and will now be a big brother to Prince George. Kate's parents's dog, a Golden Retriever named Tilly, also made it into the official family photo.

2. Paris Hilton: If there's one thing the socialite loves more than oversized sunglasses, it's miniature dogs. While her teacup Chihuahua Tinkerbell is the Hilton's most recognizable pooch, the reality star has been photographed with many different lovable puppies over the years.

3. Perez Hilton: Like his namesake Paris Hilton, gossip blogger Perez Hilton also has a thing for pint-sized pups: he loves his miniature Goldendoodle, Teddy, so much that he made him the editor at large of TeddyHilton, the blogger's sister site devoted to all things pets.

4. The Obamas: Nicknamed "The First Dog of the United States," the President Obama's dog, Bo, was a celebrity in his own right. The Obamas recently added a new member to their family: another cuddle-worthy Portugese water dog, whom they named Sunny.

5. Ryan Gosling: You may have seen the hunky actor's beloved pooch, George, during one of Gosling's appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon! Gosling's love of animals doesn't stop at his best bud, though: in a recent article, the actor wrote a passionate essay praising Canada's improvements toward the treatment of animals in the food supply.

6. Oprah Winfrey: Along with Stedman Graham and Gayle King, Oprah's five dogs are part of her famous entourage. The dogs -- Golden Retrievers Luke and Layla, Cocker Spaniel Sadie, and springer spaniels Sunny and Lauren -- have made appearances on her television show, the cover of O magazine, and on her Twitter feed.
