From the stale cookie pieces covered in furry ju-jubes, to the inevitable collapse when the icing fails to hold up the structure -- the gingerbread house is a holiday tradition we cherish round here.
Last year, a New York woman made a single three-story building out of gingerbread (and it was pretty amazing). This Christmas, she's taking on the whole block!
Renee Bauman, of Kitchen Table Scraps, takes gingerbread to an art level that makes your cookie-cutter efforts look like malformed blobs. Armed with icing (and peppercorns for doorknobs) she'll be using the spicy-holiday favorite dough to pay homage to some iconic New York architecture -- down to painstakingly incising each brick. It's kind of like holiday kitsch meets construction-in-Candyland.
Even sweeter -- Bauman will be auctioning off this year's buildings, and donating the proceeds to charity.
