If this is what a cat lady looks like...well, sign us up! This incredibly moving photo essay about an elderly Japanese woman and her feline companion will broaden your definition of "friendship"... and lift your spirits better than catnip.
The gorgeous shots were taken by the lady's granddaughter over the course of nine years. The cat was found in a shed, and named Fukumaru, after the god of good fortune. The two are constant companions, sharing everything from naptime to bathtime and a spot of tea underneath the cherry blossoms. The duo have become a sensation in Japan, turning the book of photographs published by the grand-daughter into a best-seller. It hasn't really changed life for the 88 year-old and her furry friend, who still go out to work in the fields everyday.
You can see the full gallery here for your daily dose of warm and (literally) fuzzies. Plus, the cat has eyes you have to see to believe.
