Q: I'm an adventurous foodie, but my partner's taste buds are limited to boiled chicken and root veggies, and he refuses to experiment. I'm worried my flavor centers are going to turn as bland as the food on his plate. What can I do?

Derek says…
He sounds boring. I feel for you. But in the event that you are actually in love and in this for the long haul, try finding restaurants where you can order an interesting item from the menu, while he eats a bowl of buttered pasta or a piece of bread. Once in a while, sneak away for a dinner safari with like-minded friends. Also, if you teach him how to cook, he might be more willing to experiment and expand his palate. Good luck.

Angela says…
We have a friend who doesn't have an adventurous wishbone in him. When his wife craves sushi, he tags along, and drinks a beer while she noshes on her tuna rolls. Then they go get him a burger and fries. Personally, I could never survive that kind of relationship--trying new foods is fun to do together--but hey, if it works for you then who am I to judge? This is one of those situations where you will both need to learn how to compromise. Take turns giving in to each other's food choices. I suspect after a while, he'll come around. Because who can resist a tasty chicken tikka masala?
