Q: My partner sometimes works unpredictably late hours. I don’t mind except he doesn’t call to let me know when he’ll be home. He gets cranky if dinner isn’t ready when he hasn’t been able to get food before coming home, which sets off a fight and we end up not talking to one another for a few days. How do we break this cycle?

Angela says…
How about you flip things around and send a text late afternoon asking about his schedule. It’s possible he’s stressed about work and he’s forgetting his manners. Make your text light and breezy so he’s not feeling guilty about working late.

Derek says…
Is it possible that he’s simply pushing your buttons to stir the pot and get a rise out of you? And that maybe you enjoy it or, rather, what comes after? If so, this may go on until the end of your relationship and, if I may be so bold as to suggest, is part of the bond that keeps you together.
